OtterBox Defender Series for iPad Mini Review
We received the iPad Mini OtterBox Defender case to review and tell you about. When Target had a super hot sale a few months ago on the iPad mini, I replaced my daughter’s first generation iPad which would no longer run new apps. But, it seems the smaller gadgets get, the bigger my fears are that my kids will BREAK them! So, to protect my investment it only makes sense to get a case that is guaranteed, as well as tried and true. OtterBox is known for being really well made, and well worth the money!
So, let’s get down to the nitty gritty (but keep it OFF the screen please!)
Claim: These Apple iPad mini tablets are the perfect size for kids and for entertainment on-the-go. Ensure your versatile tablet with that gorgeous display is prepped and ready for use everywhere you go with the rugged Defender Series iPad mini case.
Reality: Wow, that’s what I thought! The iPad mini is perfectly sized for a kid, so I got my kid one. And then I worried and fretted and thought about not ever letting her touch it. (Okay, that’s a little bit of an exaggeration. Sorta. But, not really.) I considered several cases for the iPad mini, but I know that OtterBox is strong and trustworthy. And that’s a lot of money to leave to chance or a cheap case!
Claim: The multi-layer Defender Series iPad mini case guards against drops, scratches and dust while maintaining seamless usability of the device
Reality: The case is in fact multi-layer. That means that there’s a back and a front and a screen protector built right in. Everything is covered or encased as it were, and everything is protected. It guards against drops – well, technically it doesn’t guard against drops, that’s my job as Mom. It protects should the act of dropping actually happen. It is not waterproof, so if Mom starts crying after said “drop,” she will need to aim away from the iPad. And as for seamless use, I’d have to say that yes – you can still use the iPad pretty much as if it wasn’t in the case. The only small little thing is the Home button is a little harder to press – but it’s not an issue just a small bit of pressure is required.
So, how is this hummer built so well? Here’s what it’s made of…
- Durable two-piece polycarbonate inner shell snaps together to form a snug fit around the iPad mini and iPad mini with Retina display
- A clear membrane screen protector is built into the inner-shell of the iPad mini and iPad mini Retina case to guard against scratches and smudges while retaining the sensitivity of the touch screen
- Durable synthetic rubber slip cover wraps around the polycarbonate shell to create a solid defense against bumps and drops
Claim: The high-impact polycarbonate shell fully covers the iPad mini while the integrated screen protector guards against scratches and smudges
Reality: Yes, again, I agree. The only small thing – and it’s our fault not theirs – is that if you happen to have three dog hairs UNDER the screen protector it might drive Mom a little insane. But, just a little. And, the case is easy enough to pop back open and remove any dust or DOG HAIR. So, you’d think they’d do that, wouldn’t you? Hmmm… maybe after they read this review.
Claim: Built-in memory foam cushions the device inside the case while the outer slip cover absorbs impact from drops and shocks
Reality: Now that’s just cool. The fancy iPad mini gets to sleep on memory foam and Mom is on an old, ahem… okay, not really that old – but not “new” … mattress. What gives, people? Seriously though, cushion is important and these things are fragile and memory foam is just… cool. Let’s be honest.
Claim: The included shield stand provides added protection during transport and acts as a display stand that accommodates both portrait and landscape viewing and a convenient typing angle
Reality: The stand is probably the neatest part of the whole case! My daughter can prop up her mini and read books, watch shows, or play games. She takes it everywhere – even in the bath! Okay, she sets it safely off to the side of the tub (because, remember, this case isn’t waterproof). But, it’s really a plus to have a good way to prop the iPad up without trying to balance it precariously against something (think of Mom’s nerves, okay?) And, aside from being a very handy stand it also snaps on and acts as another layer of protection if you’re headed to the batting cages with it — *screams!*
- Rugged, well-built
- Beautiful and available in a variety of colors and color combinations
- Easy to remove and install
- Built-in memory foam cushions & outer slip cover absorbs impact from drops and shocks
- Built-in screen protector guards against scratches and smudges, yet allows sensitivity to the touch screen
- Included stand can be used portrait or landscape, and acts as another layer of shielding when traveling
- 1-year Warranty
- Free Shipping
- The case makes it necessary to press slightly harder on the home button
- My case has 3 dog hairs under the screen protector (and yes, the hair matches MY dog!) ~ okay, not really the case’s fault
So, in summary, this iPad Mini OtterBox Defender case is an absolute MUST HAVE for anyone with an iPad mini! You can pick your colors from a multitude of choices. My little girl got pink and white; very girlie and she loves it. I highly recommend this case to keep your iPad mini investment safe and sound, and to give Mom a little extra peace of mind.
